NetSuite Training for Beginners

by Caleb Schmitz in , May 11th, 2022

It's challenging to find NetSuite training options, especially when you don't want to spend thousands of dollars on simple online courses that might be completely out of date. Software changes fast. NetSuite is no different, and keeping up with constantly changing software is hard.

NetSuite Training Options

There are really two options for training, either online courses or a training consultant that will teach you remotely or in person.

Online courses are great, but you may have noticed it is insanely difficult to find any NetSuite training material worthy of purchasing. You have the option to purchase a course directly from NetSuite and can expect to pay between $2000 - $5000 per course. They define how long a course will take and multiply that by $800 to get the total cost of the course. However, it is fairly subjective to determine the length of a particular course and is likely to differ for every person. One of my colleagues ended up taking one of the courses that had a time frame of 4 days and it took less than 1 day. For a new person never seeing NetSuite before or not familiar with computers, you can expect to take closer to the time frame.

Free Beginner Course

Another online option is this free NetSuite beginner online course which outlines the major pieces the typical user will see. The table of contents for the free NetSuite material is shown below.

  1. Navigation Tricks
  2. SuiteAnswers | Help
  3. SuiteBundler Installations
  4. Saved Search
  5. CSV Upload
  6. Roles and Permissions
  7. Dashboards
  8. Company Info | General Preferences
  9. Personalize Settings
  10. Enable Features
  11. Entry Forms
  12. Advanced PDF
  13. Email Template
  14. NetSuite Staffing Options
  15. NetSuite Partner Options

You can see here that it covers a decent amount of information needed for a beginner course.

Free SuiteCommerce Admin Course

While most free NetSuite courses will only cover the basics of working in NetSuite, occasionally, you can find one that covers a more specific topic. For example, Anchor Group just released a SuiteCommerce Administrator course.

SuiteCommerce administrator course

The table of contents for this course is as follows:

  1. SuiteCommerce Admin General Tasks
  2. Site Management Tools (CMS)
  3. Item Data Management
  4. Creating Custom Item Fields
  5. Commerce Categories
  6. Setting up URL Redirects
  7. SuitePromotions (SuiteCommerce Promo Codes)
  8. Google reCAPTCHA Bundle Installation & Configuration

While there are fewer lessons overall than in our beginner course, this covers more advanced topics specific to SuiteCommerce. If you want to take this course but are not yet familiar with working in NetSuite, we recommend taking the beginner NetSuite course first.

NetSuite Advanced PDF/HTML Course

Most free courses available online cover just basic concepts. However, you can occasionally find courses that offer a deep dive into the topics being discussed. One such free course by our team here at Anchor Group is our NetSuite Advanced PDF/HTML Template training course.

The table of contents for this course is as follows:

  1. NetSuite Advanced PDF/HTML Template Course Introduction
  2. Advanced PDF Setup Tutorial
  3. Intro to Advanced PDF WYSIWYG Mode
  4. Intro to Advanced PDF Source Code Mode
  5. Advanced PDF WYSIWYG Deep Dive
  6. Advanced PDF Source Code Deep Dive

With two deep dive lessons, each dedicated to one of the editing modes for Advanced PDFs, individuals who take this course will have a thorough understanding of how to work with NetSuite Advanced PDFs. If you want to take this course but are not yet familiar with working in NetSuite, we recommend taking the beginner NetSuite course first.

On-Site NetSuite Training

There are other NetSuite training options other than online courses. Most companies in the small to mid-market size opt-out of this type of training because it can quickly become expensive. Generally, training in this field comes from NetSuite partners that have resources coming onsite. For example, here at Anchor Group, we offer options for on-site or remote training to companies as a part of our managed service plans.

Whenever a resource comes onsite, it is common for partners to charge time and materials. When all costs are considered, including flights, hotel, travel expenses, and actual training time, it is far more expensive to go this route. With larger companies, this is a better option because the impact for trained employees far outweighs the cost for a training consultant to come onsite. You can always look for consulting companies in your area that are partnered with NetSuite.

It can be a frustrating journey getting all your employees up to speed and fully utilize your NetSuite ERP system. Good luck with your search for the best training options!

Hopefully, this post gives you something to work with while trying to understand NetSuite and what it can do for your business. If you have any questions and want some free consulting advice, feel free to contact our team at Anchor Group.
