Using an "Old Record" Condition in a NetSuite Workflow

in , March 31st, 2025

In order to easily create conditions from the original state of a record to a new state of a record, you can use the old record condition in a NetSuite workflow.

How to Use the 'Old Record' Condition in a Workflow

Imagine you have a customer record that has a status field. You want to set a custom field called date of customer win to today’s date when the record is changed a certain status to specifically the won status. Using the old record condition, we can easily create this logic in a NetSuite workflow.

In the image above, you can see that in the workflow, we are saying that if the old record is any of those statuses upon opening the record AND the new value is now 10 won, the action should execute.

Additional Notes on Using the 'Old Record' Condition

  • If trying to reference the old record in a formula, prefix the field ID with “old.” (Ex: {old.company})
  • Using this feature has the possibility of slowing the performance since the workflow is both loading the old record to pull the value and saving the new value.
  • Utilize the before record submit or after record submit triggers
