Natively, BigCommerce allows for order tracking numbers to be sent via an order shipping email. However, this functionality is difficult to access, and users may have a hard time finding the right place to put tracking numbers.
NOTE: This solution assumes that shipping labels (and tracking numbers) are being generated outside of BigCommerce.
To add a tracking number or an order shipment notification email, follow these steps.
Step 1: Turn On Shipping Notifications
Ensure that your system is configured to email customers when ‘Order status changed to Shipped’ at Settings > Order Notifications
Step 2: Ship Order Items
Navigate to Orders > View > click the dropdown next to an order > click ‘Ship Items’.
On the popup, select your shipping information and enter your Tracking ID in the field before clicking ‘Create shipment’.
Result With Shipment Tracking ID
After clicking ‘Create shipment’, the customer will receive an automated shipment confirmation email with a clickable tracking link auto-populated.
Result Without Shipment Tracking ID
If you do not add a Tracking ID and click ‘Create shipment’, a shipping confirmation email will be sent with only the shipping method displayed.
