One of our clients wanted to improve their item fulfillment efficiency in NetSuite by automating field populations relating to packaging based on the selection in the “Your Packaging” dropdown list.
In NetSuite, on a sub-record in the Shipping preferences under Setup > Accounting > Shipping on the Packages Subtab is where the package weight and dimensions live. While these values are associated with the package selected in the “Your Packaging” dropdown list on the Item Fulfillment record, only the dimensions populate upon selection natively, not the weight. Additionally, a declared value associated with the package selection also needs to be populated upon selection.
Another issue affecting our client's efficiency was a NetSuite native auto-population of a “null value” package of 0.01lb weight, which must be cleared before editing.
Building the "Your Packaging" Item Fulfillment Automation
The first problem to tackle is creating a new record in NetSuite to store the declared value for each respective package and connect it to the package selections since a new field within the Shipping preferences page cannot be created.
Next, via SuiteScript, remove the native “null value” package that is populated upon entry of the Item Fulfillment record (outlined in red on the screenshot below).
Then, via SuiteScript, when a package in the “Your Packages” dropdown list is selected, the dimension, declared value, and weight values will be auto-populated (in the fields outlined in yellow). Also, note dimensions are already natively populated upon selection.
